The Deep Roots giving garden at Shoreline Community College is an ongoing project to promote education and community related to sustainable gardening and urban food production. Volunteers from the Biology department and Learning Center North have teamed together to build and maintain these gardens. All of the food is donated to local food banks. We also teach courses in the spring and summer using the garden as an experimental organic space, where students use the scientific method to improve the quality and quantity of food production within small, defined spaces. The water garden project, also constructed with volunteer efforts, is aimed at building a demonstration garden for native plants, and to serve the Botany courses taught at Shoreline C.C.
